Helen Maxwell and Grettl Hughes

After many years I was able to visit Helen Maxwell and Grettl Hughes. They live right in the country near Attleborough  and have a house with quite a bit of garden where the dog is able to enjoy the sun.
Grettl used to train at the club with her German Shepherd while in Harare and later Helen came to join us and she was even so strong to help me training Saxon von Kirschental [I had him for a year in Zimbabwe] to run and attach her arm for IPO [Schutzhund] training.

Both dogs with Grettl, when they had settled back in the uk.
Now in Caston with only Kashinga

Ursula McKinlay and Gladys Little

Ursula McKinlay is on holiday and Gladys Little was lucky that her granddaughter took her to where Ursula was staying. They all had lunch and could get up-to-date with the Doggy world and in particular the Kennel Club of Harare news in Zimbabwe.
Don’t they look great with their big smiles?

Birthday cake for a dog ?

Years ago Helen and Grettl were training at the club and competed in various shows. Helen even helped me by being the the person taking my dog on her arm for the IPO shows.
They now live in the UK and Helen has her wonderful black sable German Shepherd Kashinga who just turned 13.
Who has ever thought of making a birthday cake for her dog ?

Scruffs dog fun day – Veterinarians for Animals Welfare in Zimbabwe

Last weekend on 18 June VAWZ [Veterinarians for Animals Welfare in Zimbabwe] held their Scruffs dog fun day at the Hellenic School along the Borrowdale Road in Harare in conjunction with the SPCA and with the help of the Kennel Club of Harare .

Entrance fees and a small fee for entering the fun classes were all for helping the SPCA needed expenses. Various classes owners and their dogs could enter like: veteran dog, dog with the most appealing eyes, dog with the waggiest tail and more. The SPCA brought their dogs on display who were looking for a good home.

The day started cloudy and cold and some dogs wore jerseys or were wrapped in blankets on their owners lap. Lots of children came into the ring to show their pooches.

The Kennel Club of Harare put on a display of how dogs can jump the various obstacles and some made many mistakes which was loved by the children and grown ups.

We are excited to have three imported judges for this event: Mrs. Noelene Pretorius will be judging Agility; Mrs. Yvonne Taentzer will be judging Obedience, Dog Jumping and CGC; and Mrs. Gillian Houghton will be judging breed.

Pam Brennan 80.

A wonderful person who comes to train two classes every Sunday when there are no shows: The 8 o’clock class is for the trainers and the 9 o’clock class she takes the advanced handler and their dogs.

She is no member of a club, just does this for the love of dogs and their performances. When there are shows being held at the club, she still comes and supports her pupils.

Last Sunday 21 May was Pam’s  80th birthday and it was felt that this should be celebrated. After her 9  – 10 class she came onto the verandah and was surprised by her special arranged “birthday table” with special made cake for her and presents from her pupils and friends.

Foto’s of Pam cutting her cake and her pupils standing around singing happy birthday to her.
