We will be holding a special Farewell Tea for Gilly Houghton who very sadly will be leaving Zimbabwe at the end of September to move to Barrydale in South Africa. Gilly has been involved with dogs since 1963 and initially her main breeds were German Shepherds and Pugs. Subsequently, she has had Yorkshire Terriers and Golden Retrievers. Gilly is a well known Breed Judge who has also judged in South Africa. She has also competed in obedience with German Shepherds, Yorkies and Golden Retrievers. Additionally, Gilly has also served on the Kennel Club of Harare Committee for many years. As a farewell, we are having a get-together tea on Sunday 25 September to be held after training so that we can all say our goodbyes to Gilly and to wish her all the best for the future! We shall miss her very much and thank her for her great contribution to the dog world over the years in Zimbabwe. Please kindly bring a small plate of snacks or cake as a bring and share.
Please note that there will be the normal obedience training classes at the Kennel Club of Harare at 9am.

She managed to see them or even go to Kennel Club to see then there and watch them in their training classes. Some did not know she was there and you can see their or Gladys expression as a wonderful surprise.

The Zimbabwe Kennel Club held their Non-Contact Agility and Agility Contact Championship Shows on Sunday 27 March at the Kennel Club of Harare grounds. The Judge was Mrs. Arlett Reed from S Africa.
It was a bright sunny day and all the dogs performed well. The first show of the morning had only one qualifying dog of all 14 competing. Awesome to see Peter Pozzo and Smudge doing it all without making a mistake.
Unfortunately I do not have all the dogs and owners names and my apologies for that. Look forward to get a feed back on them.
A shame that Stephany and Dorothy left to go back to the UK,
NEWS DIRECT FORM STEPH:
We all set off in the cab of this van with our cases and Mitts’s travel box in the back and the four of us (Mitts, Dorothy, Steph and our very kind and efficient host, Bryn) for our first base. I travelled with my feet against the windscreen and we had a delightful stop half way to relieve the cramp! All safe and sound and VERY happy to be together.
We set off for Lincolnshire tomorrow in convoy: Dorothy and Steph with Mitts in the car acquired today and Bryn in the van with Mitsi’s Mansion, the eight (+) suitcases and sundry other bulky acquisitions with a picnic lunch and great optimism.
Love to all

Various dogs did very well. I was there taking pictures of dogs coming out of the tunnel and fun to watch how they did and how their handlers were working hard to get them through. Public sitting on the side had a good view on all of them.
Price cards were made by Linda Lamb, so professional and must have been a treasure to win one of them.
Time flies and we often don’t hear any news about our German Shepherd owners who left and now live far away. One of our members was Daphne McDowall.
I can’t remember all her dogs, but do know about her keen trading and entering her dog Jutta.
She got Jutta in 1987 who was a pup from Tanah Merah Diana and Gero com Trei Madelhaus [Imported form Belgium].
Daphne entered Jutta many times and was so dedicated. In 2006 she got Wuckey, named her Nicky? who was form Bakhari of Barchaelo [imported from S Africa] and Tanah Merah Rambutan.
Fairly soon Daphne immigrated to Australia to live with her son on the East coast, Nicky then came to live with Daphne’s daughter Susan.
A few weeks back Daphne got bad flu which turned into bad pneumonia. Because of this she had a vey bad cough which caused to get her a strangulated hernia, poor girl. Had to have the hernia operated on and had a heart attack. She was in ICU for over a week.
Susan managed to get a flight to Australia to be with her and thank goodness all went well and she is now home again recuperating. Still weak and frail, but I believe all is going slowly better.
We all remember her from those days and whish her all the best and some good times to come.
On the home front
A lovely new arrival in Zimbabwe. Wucky passed away and Susan now has a wonderful new addition to her other Shepherd. How great that we have still so many true lovers of our breed. Enjoy her Susan and have a good time with her as soon as you get back from your Mum
